All Creatures of Our God and King

“Let heaven and earth praise him,
the seas and everything that moves in them.”
Psalm 69:34

Glorious fall days like today make my heart swell with gratitude and praise for a loving Creator. He made the world on purpose; He created each part of our universe with a plan in mind. Things didn’t just happen into existence, they didn’t appear as a by-product of something else, they were deliberately spoken into being by the eternal God.

And creation, nature itself, acknowledges this. We are told in the Psalms that the very heavens declare the glory of God and make known His handiwork. Day and night speak the truths of His power and wisdom. Every aspect of creation points towards its Creator, except for mankind. We who were created in the very image of God, according to His own likeness, fail to offer praise and worship to the One in whom we have our being. The One who sustains us and carries us, who bought us back and rescued us from eternal damnation, who covers us in His own righteousness and intercedes for us continually.

But there will come a day when all men of all time will acknowledge their Creator. When every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. And then, when death is destroyed and the unrighteous are cast into the lake of fire, every single thing in the new heaven and new earth will join in a new song of glorious praise to God. An uninterrupted, unhindered time of worship.  A unanimous exclamation of His greatness and sovereignty. Can you imagine how magnificent that will be? How pure and holy our song will be? How glorious?

It makes my soul want to sing of the mighty power of God! To raise my song of praise to Him, our great Savior… to join with all nature in manifold witness of our faithful Creator!

All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing,
Alleluia! Alleluia!

Thou burning sun with golden beam, Thou silver moon with softer gleam!
Thou rushing wind that art so strong, Ye clouds that sail in Heaven along,
O praise Him! Alleluia!

Thou rising moon, in praise rejoice, Ye lights of evening, find a voice!
Thou flowing water, pure and clear, Make music for thy Lord to hear,
O praise Him! Alleluia!

Thou fire so masterful and bright, That givest man both warmth and light.
Let all things their Creator bless, And worship Him in humbleness,
O praise Him! Alleluia!

Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three in One!
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
