Around this time of year, I start getting excited about the cooler weather, because I love experimenting with crockpot soups and chili! Last year I shared my own Pumpkin Black Bean Chili, which got a lot of great reviews. And here’s one I put together last night…
Turkey & Bacon Chili
{1 lb} ground turkey
{1/2 cup} water
{1 Tbsp} olive oil
{1 cup} tomato sauce
{1 cup} vegetable juice [use low sodium, if possible]
{1 cup} chunky salsa [as mild or hot as you want!]
{2 cups} kidney beans [if using canned, rinse & drain first]
{2 medium} white onions, chopped
{2 large} tomatoes, chopped
{6 slices} cooked bacon, chopped
{2 cloves} garlic, minced
{1-2 tsp} chili powder
{1 tsp} EACH onion powder, cilantro, cumin, white sugar
{dash} ground black pepper
{dash} worcestershire sauce
Optional: anything spicy, like red pepper flakes or ground cayenne pepper
Suggested Toppings: shredded cheddar, sliced green onions, sour cream

What’s YOUR favorite chili variation?

I tried ground turkey for chili – several times, in fact. However, the last time I tried adding it in with ground beef and we had a full-on revolt in our house. Peter “laid down the law” – no more ground turkey.
So, I’m back to all-beef chili, and I’m okay with that too. This recipe does look good, though!
It would work great with beef or venison too, I think!
Your chili looks delicious!! I am looking forward to my Mom’s chili tomorrow… Non-Ryan version. ha!
Haha! Notice I put the spicy stuff as “optional”
