The Rock in My Soul

My soul is weary. My heart is aching for friends who are struggling through difficult things right now.

Loved ones are hurting, physically and emotionally. Friends are in seasons of uncertainty, of dim haziness.

And so I pray.

I pray for their hurt, their frustration, their need for clarity and direction. I pray that the Spirit would give courage and comfort. I pray for grace — for God’s grace is more than enough for every one of us, every moment. I pray for strength — for God’s strength is shown most perfect in our weakest moments.

I pray that my friends would be made more aware of blessings. That their hearts would be filled with gratitude — for life, for salvation, for the privilege of walking in Christ’s footsteps here on earth.

And as I pray, the ache in my heart throbs harder. The heaviness grows deeper. And so I pray for me. And I cling to the Hope that I know is sure.

And so I hide.

I run from the problems, and I hide in the Solution. I run from the storms, and hide in the Maker of Peace. I run from the grief and hide in Mercy.

I cling to the Rock, grasping with my fingertips to its firm foundation. I slip and I slide, but a Hand reaches down and holds me, keeps me from falling away.

I find a Rock in my soul, and it gives me life. {<–tweet this!}

How oft in the conflict, when pressed by the foe,
I have fled to my refuge and breathed out my woe;
How often, when trials like sea billows roll,
Have I hidden in Thee, O Thou Rock of my soul.

Hiding in Thee, hiding in Thee.
Thou blessed ‘Rock of Ages’
I’m hiding in Thee!

Q: How can I pray for YOU today?

The best place to find comfort is in God’s perfect Word!

  1. Thanks so much for the reminder, Elizabeth. We are in such a busy season (and you know how much I hate living a “rushed” life). I am finding myself needing to be anchored so much. God is my Rock…will be meditating on that throughout the day!

  2. Thanks, E. Loved this. God is our refuge and strength.

  3. What a beautiful reminder! The line from the song, is that from Rock of Ages? I don’t recall ever hearing that one, but how beautiful it is! Thank you for sharing! We’re neighbors at Mercy Ink today! Blessings! simplyhelpinghim.com

  4. Visiting from WIP- I love the name of your site! He is indeed the Rock of our salvation! Praying for you to have a blessed day! N

  5. I, too, have been praying for hurting family and friends, but not the usual ones: I’ve been focusing my prayers on unbelievers, realizing that they have earthly sorrows and needs. The biggest and most pressing need for all men is a saving knowledge of Jesus, but I don’t want to neglect the earthly needs and disappointments of the people in my life.
