2012 in Review

Can you believe 2012 is almost over? It feels like it’s been a whirlwind sort of year… life has certainly been busy! But it’s {mostly} been a good sort of busy. And I’m praising God that He’s given me more energy, and more stamina, to keep up with {most of} that busy-ness!

The two biggest praises from this year are improvements in my health, and direction in personal ministry.

Health: Last year at this time I was overwhelmed with crazy fatigue, hardly able to get from one day to the next. With that fatigue came lots of “nuisance” health problems… but most of that started clearing up over the summer! I’m still battling fatigue, but on a much less intense level than I was. Thanks to the Wegener’s, I know it can flare back up at any time, but I’m praising God for every day when it doesn’t make itself known.

Ministry: I am completely awed by how God has guided my writing, and thus my ministry. Last year, although I was blogging, I didn’t have much direction for my blog or passion for writing anything specific. Even now, it’s still very much a work-in-progress {as am I!}. But God has since given me a passion for encouraging other Christians toward living Christ-centered lives. This is my ministry and, I believe, my calling for this season of life! God has also clarified my purpose in writing, both for this blog and any books I might write, and He’s provided sweet fellowship with other like-minded bloggers, friends I’d never have known were I healthy and active — and not online!

And I reached several of my Goals for 2012Here’s what I was trying to accomplish this year, and how I did:

Goals

1. Read through the entire Bible in one year — CHECK! Completing this for the first time ever, and loved it enough to attempt again in 2013!

2. Continue reading theology books — CHECK! And still ongoing…

3. Finish revising my book and query a publisher — CHECK! Publisher found, and working towards signing a contract!

4. Lose 15 more pounds to reach my goal weight — FAIL. But my honest excuse is the fatigue I battled until August. And then I just plain got busy. But, I’m trying again in 2013!

5. Increase my fitness level in at least one area — FAIL. See above.

6. Continue building my website for selling handcrafted cards — Suspended: after experimenting and evaluating, decided this wasn’t the right time for selling cards.

7. Write at least 1 poem per week — Suspended: priorities have shifted, and this is no longer a passion. Not saying I won’t keep writing poetry, but my focus has turned elsewhere for now.

8. Get off prednisone — Suspended: I think maybe this shouldn’t be on my list, since I don’t really have any control over it anyway. What do you think?

9. Continue in discipleship ministries — CHECK! And still in progress!

10. Update DogFur and Dandelions — CHECK! Domain name purchased, new website designed, and lots of refocusing & clarification accomplished this year! And an updated revision coming soon, too!

My 2012 can be summed up in two words: courage and clarity. The one kind of brought me to the other. Never underestimate the need for courage — or the blessing of clarity! And the 2 key verses that kind of emphasized those things:

‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses,
so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:9

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.
Psalm 103:2

QUESTION: Did you reach any goals this year?
Do you have a specific verse or word that defined 2012?
