Give them a book to help guide their response to suffering

In April 2007, I was diagnosed with a long-term illness, Wegener’s Granulomatosis. I struggled to know the “right” way to respond to my diagnosis. I searched and searched for resources to help acclimate to my new “normal” way of life, in a manner that would glorify my Creator. I studied, and prayed, and wrote. And this book was born.

Touching the Hem considers the questions of how to respond to sickness or injury, whether God still heals today, and how to seek that healing if He does.

It starts with a thorough look upward, at who God is, and what He has done and will do for His creation (mankind). It then looks outward, considering our present circumstances in light of God’s character and works. Only after looking upward and outward does it turn the gaze inward, considering what our response should be to present physical suffering, and how we should continue living according to a biblical response.

It would make a wonderful gift for someone special this Christmas!

With 20 short chapters, it’s just the right length to start out the New Year with new hope. There’s even a free study guide available at TouchingtheHemBook.com, to help you get the most out of its pages. And while it was written particularly for the benefit of those struggling physically, it is applicable to any sort of suffering.

The Kindle version is on sale today over at Amazon — just 99 cents! Get it here.

At that price, you could easily grab a few copies to share with struggling neighbors or Sunday school teachers or any students of God’s Word. And don’t forget to direct them to the FREE study guide.

I’m also giving away 2 copies of the ebook!

Win one for yourself. Or win a copy to share with someone special this Christmas!

  1. How would you share this book with someone who questions the Bible? My sister is bi-polar and would benefit from reading this, but while she says she believes in God and talks to Him, she says she doesn’t believe in the Bible or any other Christian book because they are written by humans. I don’t know how to talk to her about this

    • Hmm, that’s a tough one! If she doesn’t believe the Bible is God’s inspired, unchanging Word then she certainly won’t find hope in its promises. I’d recommend studying a few key passages with her (and maybe on your own first, so you can guide her through them), like:

2 Peter 1:20-21 “no prophecy was produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit”
2 Timothy 3:16 “all Scripture is breathed out by God and is profitable”
Isaiah 40:8 “the word of God will stand forever”
Proverbs 30:5 “every word of God proves true”
Matthew 4:4 “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Psalm 19:7-11 “the law of the Lord is perfect”

Once she begins to see and understand that God divinely inspired every word of Scripture, she can start to find hope in its eternal unchanging truth. In the meantime, you could be studying through my book, so that when she is finally open to hearing God’s truth, you’ll be ready with verses to encourage and help her!

Study these things out on your own, pray diligently for God’s guidance and for her spiritual eyes to be opened, and then share with her lovingly and patiently. And I’d be happy to chat with you further about this! Feel free to email me: elizabeth.johnson@dogfuranddandelions.com.
