You Only Live Once

You only live once.

It’s become a trite catchphrase over the past few years, annoying to some and overused by others, but that doesn’t make it any less true.

You only live once.

You don’t get a do-over after you die. You don’t reincarnate as another person or being of some other kind. You live once, and then you die, and that’s it for life on this earth.

You only live once.

You only have one short lifetime to make a difference, to say kind words to those who are hurting, to love the unlovely, to share the gospel, to be an example, to help the less fortunate, to make a direct impact with your words and actions.

You only live once.

After you die, though your soul will live on in heaven or hell, you will never again have the opportunity to know the joy of winning someone to Christ, the victory of resisting temptation, or the joy of suffering for the sake of Christ.

You only live once.

Only once in a frail, deteriorating human body. Only once in a broken sin-cursed world, surrounded by broken sinful people. Only once to stand firm against evil. Only once to speak out against murder, injustice, hatred… sin of all shapes and sizes.

You only live once.

Never again will you have the opportunity to live out Christ’s love among the poor, the broken, the hateful, the lost, the hardened hearts, the sick and dying. There will none of that in heaven. There will be only missed opportunities to share the light of Christ’s gospel with those who need it most.

You only live once.

You only have one lifetime to be a missionary wherever you are — with your friends and neighbors, your coworkers, your family, your community. To be a light in a dark world. To be an ambassador of Christ in a foreign land.

You only live once.

Only once to live a life worthy of hearing “well done” from the great Creator and King over all. Only one lifetime to earn rewards, crowns to cast back at His feet. Only one chance to invest in eternity.

You Only Live Once

You only live once.

What will you do with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?
