Tribute to Boston, 4/15/2013

I grew up about an hour south of Boston, and part of my heart is still there. I grieved along with my friends who were there. I mourned for their losses. I cried out to God for mercy, right along with them. I gave thanks for every report of someone who was safe -- whose plans changed "last minute" -- people who normally watch the marathon right there at the finish line. And after the initial shock, after making sure my closest loved ones were safe... I started looking for the good. For reasons to give thanks. For reasons to hope. Because even in the midst of tragedy... God is still merciful. And so, my tribute to my city. My offering of thanks to God, for His constant [...Read More]

Intercession: Pray for Our Government

I don't want to start a political firestorm. In fact, I don't even like talking about politics. But, no matter what our political leanings are -- as Christian citizens, we are responsible to pray for our government. There's so much going on right now in America! Many decisions are being made which will drastically affect our future -- and our children's futures. We're right on the edge, friends. So many laws are being considered which can either ruin or strengthen our country's greatness. Supreme Court cases, international threats, educational policies, increase in unemployment, healthcare reform, gun control, abortion, budget deficits, tax cuts... what else am I missing? We must [...Read More]

Focus on Intercession: America

A note to those readers in other nations around the world: my country is very dear to me, and is high on my prayer list. Maybe you'd like to join us in interceding for our beloved nation, or perhaps you can apply these suggestions to pray for your own homeland. I think we can all agree that America needs our prayers. Whatever your political views, wherever you fall on the conservative/liberal spectrum, you surely agree that our nation has problems. You may have even experienced some of them personally. Whether the fiscal cliff, domestic security, foreign policy, education and welfare, homosexuality and abortion, or other moral or spiritual issues -- we are dealing with a lot right [...Read More]

Post-Election Thoughts

By now you've surely seen the overwhelming trend towards liberalism in the results of our state and federal elections. It was, for me at least, eye-opening. I had hoped that more people understood the dangers of continuing down this path. Apparently I was wrong. I am both disappointed and concerned. I am concerned about the future of strong families and true Christians. I am concerned that our nation's freedoms will wane more and more, and that we will become more enslaved to dangerous ideas or foreign nations. I grieve for the waywardness of my beloved nation. But no matter what direction our country heads -- whether we agree with its leaders or not -- God is still our only true [...Read More]

Election Day 2012

Choose not to be anxious today. About anything. But bring every aspect of the day -- and of the elections -- before God in prayer. Do not worry, but pray with thanksgiving in your heart, because that is God's will for you. Pray continually with earnest pleading and thanksgiving, according to the Holy Spirit's leading. And trust God to answer in His perfect way. Do not place your hopes in a man, some human who is destined to fail. After all, the day he dies -- or leaves office -- his plans are done. He is finished. So do not trust in man, but trust in the great unchanging I Am, whose purposes and ways are beyond human comprehension. Trust in the One who has all authority in [...Read More]

A Little Taste of Chucktown

We just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary by taking a quick trip to Charleston, South Carolina. If you're unfamiliar with the city, it is the second largest city in South Carolina and its establishment dates back to 1670. It is filled with rich history and diverse culture, from magnificent plantations, to Revolutionary and Civil War sites, to wide beaches and open harbors. If you've never been, you should definitely put it on your list of places to visit... there's something there for everyone! Hubby and I started our visit with some walking through downtown Charleston - visiting the famous market, looking at the local crafts and handmade sweetgrass baskets {a 300-year-old [...Read More]

In the Words of a Soldier

I don't usually share secular lyrics on here, but today is Memorial Day, and this song offers an amazing look into the hearts of our soldiers. And yes, it makes me cry every time I hear the words. It's amazing what our men and women are willing to give up - not just their lives but the everyday little conveniences that we all take for granted - just so you and I can sleep in peace each night. Read this. And pray for our soldiers. . American Soldier by Chuck Cannon & Toby Keith . I'm just trying to be a father, raise a daughter and a son, Be a lover to their mother, everything to everyone. Up and at 'em, bright and early, I'm all business in my suit. Yeah, I'm dressed up for success, [...Read More]

America, America

Those who watched those horrific sights ten years ago, who heard the terrifying screams as they happened, who saw that September morning turn from glorious to grotesque... we will never forget. Those who lost husbands and sons, mothers and daughters, brothers and sisters, friends and relatives... we will never forget. Those brave firefighters and emergency personnel, who rushed into danger as everyone else was rushing out... we will never forget. Those who are Americans, who love their country, who bleed red, white, and blue from their very hearts... we will never forget. [...Read More]
