Preparing for Eternity

It always surprises me how what you read in one section of God's Word affects what you see in a different section. For instance, right now I'm reading through Psalms and 2 Corinthians. And as I absorb the comfort and refreshment of the Psalms, I find similar encouragement in Paul's epistle. And they just tie so perfectly together, even though they were written centuries apart. For example - Psalm 119 and 2 Corinthians 4. In Psalm 119:9-16 (the second section), David writes about seeking after God. And seeking hard, seeking purposefully after Him. Notice the action words he uses: Guard Seek Store up Declare Delight Meditate Fix upon Not forget These are all definite [...Read More]

And We Shall Behold Him!

Thought for the day: in heaven there will no longer be a focus on the cross and the blood of Jesus, since this stage of life will be fully complete. There will no longer be the effects of sin, neither the causes (temptation) nor the consequences (physical and spiritual death). And we will see the full radiance of our Creator, as no man has ever seen it. We will reflect it fully and completely, without needing a veil as Moses did when he saw the back side of God. And His glory will illuminate and fill our dwelling place, His holy city, the New Jerusalem. Can you imagine how intense and passionate His radiance is? Can you imagine living in it every.single.moment, and abundantly thriving in it? [...Read More]

Five Minute Friday: Welcome

Time again for another Five Minute Friday! And a shout out for the Gypsy Mama, who continues to keep up with us on her blog, even during her sojourning in South Africa! For this week's five minutes of straight-from-the-heart writing, she chose the topic.... Welcome Lots of things come to mind with the word "welcome." I think of someone welcoming a loved one home from a trip, like a soldier coming home to his family or someone coming home from the hospital. I think of a welcome mat, a sign of hospitality and openness. I think of how we say "you're welcome" to someone when they say "thank you." And I think of our heavenly Father, who welcomes us with open arms. If our hearts are pure, we can [...Read More]

Five Minute Friday: Home

And once again, Friday rolls around and brings with it a chance to write freely for five minutes. Funny, but it seems like last Friday wasn't really a whole week ago... just been one of those weeks, I guess. Anyway, today's prompt from Five Minute Friday is.... HOME I'm collecting homes. At least, that's what I feel like sometimes. It's not a bad thing, really. But let's see... 1. There's the home I share with my husband in sunny Carolina, nestled near the mountains and good old southern cities. Not far from where my Grandfather grew up. 2. There's my husband himself, for "home is where the heart is," and since my heart is always with him, then I'm at home no matter where we may be, as long [...Read More]

Eternity

Preface: Many of you know I write poetry. I also follow several poetry blogs, which provide weekly writing prompts (words, themes, images) for our musing and inspiration. This week, one of them (Sunday Scribblings) provided the word 'eternity' for a prompt. And after musing over the word for a day, I started wondering about eternity past. We often consider eternity future, our own future with God in heaven, but what about eternity in the past, when there was only God? What about eternity past, just before He created the world, before He formed mankind to fellowship with Him? What about His foreknowledge during that eternity, when He knew what He would create, but He also knew how His [...Read More]
