Spiritual Blessings from Ephesians

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places (Ephesians 1:3).

What are some of these spiritual blessings with which we have been blessed? The book of Ephesians list a plethora of blessings, all for our benefit:

  • “he chose us in him before the foundation of the world” (1:4)
  • “he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ” (1:5)
  • “his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved” (1:6)
  • “redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses” (1:7)
  • “the promised Holy Spirit … the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it” (1:13-14)
  • “God … made us alive together with Christ … raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (2:4-6)
  • “immeasurable riches of his grace” (2:7)
  • “kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” (2:7)
  • “access in one Spirit to the Father” (2:18)
  • “fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God” (2:19)
  • “boldness and access with confidence through our faith in [Christ]” (3:12)
  • “power through his Spirit” (3:16)
  • “strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge” (3:18-19)
  • “grace [that] was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift” (4:7)
  • “the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness”(4:24)
  • “the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption” (4:30)
  • “Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” (5:2)
  • “the whole armor of God, that you may be able to … stand firm” (6:13)
  • “the belt of truth … the breastplate of righteousness … the gospel of peace … the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one … the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God … prayer and supplication” (6:14-19)

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen(Ephesians 3:20-21).

To continue this theme of thanksgiving, I wanted to share some of the spiritual blessings that I am grateful for.

  • Any list would be remiss if it did not mention the greatest gift of all – that God loved me enough to send His only Son to pay the wages for my sinfulness.
  • Along with that, the precious and amazing opportunity to have a personal relationship with God, I as His child and He as my Heavenly Father.
  • And that God sees me as perfect and justified through the blood of His Son.
  • Furthermore, that I need no earthly high priest, but can approach God on my own, with Jesus Christ as the sole mediator.
  • Also that Christ and the Spirit both intercede for me before the throne of God.
  • Moreover, that the triune God (Father, Son, and Spirit) is always with me.
  • Also, I have the promise of forgiveness for my sins, keeping me in constant communion with my Heavenly Father.
  • And besides that, He gives me as much grace as I need to deal with the weaknesses of my humanity (and sinful nature).
  • He also promises never to test me beyond what I can handle through His help.
  • Finally, I have the hope of being face-to-face with my Creator and Savior some day, when He so chooses, in a land of holiness and perfection.
