Righteousness Wins

“Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. And he said with a loud voice, ‘Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.‘ Another angel, a second, followed, saying, ‘Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who made all nations drink the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality.‘ And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, ‘If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, he also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name‘” (Revelation 14:6-11).

Three angels, all with messages from God the Father. The first brings a message of good news, the eternal gospel. He proclaims to the entire world that man is to fear God, give glory to God, and worship God. This angel shouts the message to all who are still on earth that God’s hour of judgment is at hand!

The second angel brings a heavy message of destruction. His prophetic rhetoric announces that the city or empire which has influenced the world in business, politics, and religion will soon fall utterly and completely. He proclaims that all who have partaken of her rebellion against God (literally, her spiritual immorality) will also partake in her judgment (literally, the wine of the wrath). Destruction is certain and immanent.

The final angel follows with the message of eternal judgment. All who reject God will suffer for eternity. All who choose to worship and follow after someone other than their Creator will receive the undiluted wrath of God. No more mercy or grace will be shown, for they have rejected God continually, and they will face unceasing infliction of unbearable pain (literally, torment).

God’s Word is clear. There is not only a literal heaven, there is a literal hell; and all who refuse to worship God in spirit and in truth will face an eternity in that hell. They will never again have opportunity to be reunited with their Creator. They will never have another opportunity to find forgiveness, to have communion with the Savior who died for them, to know Him personally. They will be eternally separated from the one true God. And they will face physical torment as well as the spiritual. They will suffer agonizing pain in a literal lake of fire, a burning and sulphurous place “where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:48).

Judgment is indeed coming. Are you ready for it?

“For I will proclaim the name of the LORD; ascribe greatness to our God! The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he (Deuteronomy 32:3-4).
