I know, it’s Saturday. But I was busy spending time with my hubby yesterday, so I didn’t get a chance to respond to the Five Minute Friday prompt. So here it is, a day late but hopefully not a dollar short.
“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12).
Our days are numbered from the very beginning, from before we are even conceived. Then, the very day we are born, they start diminishing, counting down to the zero hour when we enter eternity.
That number is different for every one of us. You know that. Some of us will live to be one hundred or more. Some will only live for a few decades. Or less.
But the one thing we all have in common is that those days are pre-determined by God. He has planned them out according to His divine will. He knows what will take place every single one of those days… none of it comes as a surprise to Him.
And we must realize that our days are numbered and limited, and live accordingly. We must take advantage of the time we have here on earth to apply our hearts and minds to wisdom. To live for God’s purposes rather than our own. To learn His heart and His words. To redeem the time we have, to literally “buy it back” and make it profitable, in the midst of a sinful world.
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:15-16).
