Psalm 145

Our Pastor shared this Psalm with us while James was in the hospital a few weeks ago. At the time, James was still seizing and I was keeping one eye on him, one eye on the EEG monitor; I had one ear tuned toward the hallway, listening for his doctor, and one ear tuned into our Pastor. Needless to say, I wasn’t able to give full attention to what he was reading. I caught phrases here and there, and was greatly comforted by his presence and his prayer time with us. But the next day when I was home (and a little more coherent), I had to read through this Psalm again. And again. It has so much in only 21 verses: commands, promises, reminders…

I know this post is a rather long one, but these verses have remained on my heart and mind, and I wanted to share the blessings and encouragement with you all.

I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you
and praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised,
    and his greatness is unsearchable.
One generation shall commend your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.

Have you praised God today? Have you shared His greatness with another? Have you testified of His goodness and lifted His name above all others?

On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds,
and I will declare your greatness.
They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

Have you meditated on His Word today? Have you sung His praises back to Him with your heart and your voice? Have you filled your mind with His words and works so that you can share them with others?

The LORD is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The LORD is good to all,
and his mercy is over all that he has made.

All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD,
and all your saints shall bless you!
They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom
   and tell of your power,
to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds,
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations.
[The LORD is faithful in all his words
and kind in all his works.]

Selah. He is gracious, patient, loving, good, and merciful. He is glorious, powerful, mighty, and everlasting. He is always faithful, always kind, in all He says and does. Meditate on that for a few moments.

The LORD upholds all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food in due season.
You open your hand;
you satisfy the desire of every living thing.
The LORD is righteous in all his ways
and kind in all his works.
The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
Hefulfills the desire of those who fear him;
he also hears their cry and saves them.
The LORD preserves all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.

He upholds and carries us. He provides our needs. He gives true satisfaction. He is kind and right in all that He does. He is always present and near to us. He hears and answers our pleas to Him. He protects and preserves us.

My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD,
and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

Have you praised Him today? Have you exalted Him in your heart and your mind? Have you set an example for others to bless Him along with you? Have you been obedient to Scripture by meditating, praising, and testifying of our great God?

Share Time: What are you praising God for today?
