America, America

Those who watched those horrific sights ten years ago, who heard the terrifying screams as they happened, who saw that September morning turn from glorious to grotesque… we will never forget.

Those who lost husbands and sons, mothers and daughters, brothers and sisters, friends and relatives… we will never forget.

Those brave firefighters and emergency personnel, who rushed into danger as everyone else was rushing out… we will never forget.

Those who are Americans, who love their country, who bleed red, white, and blue from their very hearts… we will never forget.

Even today, my heart weeps for the tragedy that took place ten years ago on my country’s soil. Even today, I am still speechless at the pain and the nightmare of it all. Ten years ago, I was sitting front and center of my high school classroom, when our teacher rolled in a television and hit the power button. I sat there, stunned and astonished, watching the second plane hit the towers. As it actually happened. The rest of that day, that week even, is hazy. We were all shaken to our very core, that something like that could happen to us. To America, land that we love.

Those born later, those who were still too young to know what took place that day in 2001, they don’t feel the same agony. They don’t understand what it felt like to live through that, even if only through the media. But we do.

My heart bleeds for my country. For the great family that has so much dissension within it. For the wayward and foolish choices being made by some of our leaders, those in respected and honored positions who are willfully and ignorantly tearing us down. For my brothers and sisters of this great nation who are stubbornly ignoring their real needs, their utter spiritual depravity and their need for a perfect and eternal Ruler, the God of true and lasting peace.

Oh, America! America! May God be gracious to you! We do not deserve His grace in the least, but yet may we cry out to Him for it. May we plead for His grace by living for His glory. May we humble ourselves in our desperation for His blessing.

September 11, 2001, was a day we will never forget. But let us look beyond the horror of that day to the One who foresaw it, to the only One who can bless and strengthen and build up our country.

While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that’s free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.

God bless America, land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam,
God bless America, My home sweet home.
God bless America, My home sweet home.
