This is supposed to be my post where I share what I’ve learned from my Bible reading this week. From the TTB12 readings. But, although I’ve kept up with the schedule, what I’ve been learning hasn’t really been in the daily readings.
So what has God been teaching me?
1. Don’t try to analyze the wind. In other words, don’t try to figure everything out, because not everything in this life can be figured out. He has His own ways of working and leading, and those ways are far beyond our human comprehension. Simply trust, and rest, and let Him work in His own perfect way and time.
2. Don’t wish away the difficult times. Who wouldn’t agree that life is hard? But we can learn to rest in those hard times, to trust God’s authority over those difficulties, and to let Him work and lead through those trials. He may not change our circumstances, but He will certainly change us, if we let Him!
3. Don’t be preoccupied with wrong thinking. Instead, exchange those discouraging or destructing thoughts for the edifying promises of God’s Word. Fill your mind with His truths, and those lies will start to flee. Be in the Word faithfully, learn it and memorize it and personalize it, and when those negative thoughts start coming you will be able to stop them, resist them, and fill your mind instead with things that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and praiseworthy.
4. Don’t hold on to your anxiety. We do not have to be burdened with our anxious thoughts, our cares in this life. We have another option, a better choice – we can choose to be thankful. It is through bringing our cares to God in thankfulness that we can know His peace. It is through thanking Him for everything– both blessings and trials- that we can discover His joy. It is through exchanging our anxiety for His praise that He will open our eyes to all His benefits (Psalm 103:2) and overwhelm us with His contentment. When we hold on to our worries and fears and hurts, we blind ourselves to His great grace and everlasting love, His mercies that are new every single day, His faithfulness to provide all we need, His constant and unfailing forgiveness.
I think all of these things can be summed up with the following verses:
“The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
So that’s what I’ve been learning and working on this week. What about you? What are you learning from God’s Word this week?
Share in the comments how God is teaching and leading you! Share what He is doing in your life! I’d love to read about it!
