God is Still at Work

A lot of people believe that God created the world. I hope you’re one of them. {If you’re not, go read Genesis 1.}

But a lot of people also believe that, after creation, He left the world to run on its own. That life’s progression is left to chance, or fate. That we’re in control of our own destinies.

I disagree.

I believe that God is still involved in this world.

I believe that He cares for every single part of our universe moment-by-moment. I believe that He is a “hands-on” God, that He is constantly working in our lives.

How do I know? Psalm 65:6-13 [HCSB]:

You establish the mountains by Your power, robed with strength.
You silence the roar of the seas, the roar of their waves,
and the tumult of the nations.
Those who live far away are awed by Your signs;
You make east and west shout for joy.

You visit the earth and water it abundantly,
enriching it greatly.

God’s stream is filled with water,
for You prepare the earth in this way,
providing people with grain.

You soften it with showers and bless its growth,
soaking its furrows and leveling its ridges.

You crown the year with Your goodness;
Your ways overflow with plenty.

The wilderness pastures overflow,
and the hills are robed with joy.

The pastures are clothed with flocks
and the valleys covered with grain.

They shout in triumph; indeed, they sing.

God is constantly at work in His creation!

He calms the seas, and quiets the nations. He makes the sun rise and shine from east to west. He causes rain to water the ground, and makes the crops grow, and provides food for His creation. He gives abundance. He adds beauty to the earth with flowers and blossoming trees. He makes the birds chirp with joy.

God didn’t just create the world and leave it to flounder on its own. He lovingly tends to it. He keeps it going the way He wants it to.

God is still working in you. He will finish the work that began with your creation. <– click to tweet

–> Don’t think that your life is falling apart. Maybe He’s just changing its direction. He began a good work in you, and He will complete it. He will not stop before it is finished.

–> Don’t think that you’re all alone. He has promised to never leave you, never forsake you. And His word is truth. And His word never changes.

–> Don’t think that He stopped working everything for good. He is always working, we just can’t see everything He does. We have the dashboard view, while He has the helicopter view.

God is still at work, both in nature and in you! He is always at work! He never stops, never sleeps, never gets interrupted or forgets what He’s been doing.

He is still in love with all that He created in Genesis 1. That means He is still in love with you — because you are His creation too. And He is still working in your life, whether you see it or not.

Do you believe God is still working in your life? How do you keep trusting, even when it’s hard to see?

  1. I do not just believe Elizabeth, like you, I know that He is the creator and is still involved in His creation. Thanks for this reminder, have a God filled day!

    1. Thanks for the comment! Have a blessed Monday 🙂

  2. I also have to add that like you, I disagree totally with those who think our lives are left to chance, God has a plan and purpose for all of us, but we must follow. Keep sharing, you are an inspiration!

  3. He is definitely still at work in me because He still has a lot of work to do. I am not perfect and if I am not perfect there is still room for Him to improve me. He will only be finished with me when I am right at home with Him in Heaven.

    1. Amen! Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Beautiful post, Elizabeth!

    1. Thanks, Tyanne!

  5. Love this, friend!

  7. Thank you for your post. I’m from New Life Stewart and I agree with your reflection very much. He knows us by name and He knows everything about us, down to the very hair in our heads. He is the God of the details. He is interested in our everyday life as well as in our world as a whole. The Deists believe, as you mentioned, that God is the Creator but that once creation was completed, He left us alone…why then Jesus Christ? Why then His second coming announced not only in the New Testament but also in the Old? Why His blood and atoning sacrifice? He is the air we breathe. He sustains us…He holds us in the palm of His hand. Thank you again for your reflections on the Word. Blessings!

    1. Yes, exactly. God is in the details – and He has planned things in such detail, how could we doubt that He is still working in it all? Thanks so much for stopping by!

  8. Another great reminder Elizabeth. So I have to ask…where did the name of your blog come from? I’m so curious!

    Thanks again for linking up!

    1. It’s kind of random – just a phrase that stuck in my head when I was trying to come up with a unique name. Although I do have a dog who produces much dogfur, and I love dandelions offer a good lesson in perspective. Check out my “About” pages for more 🙂
