Real Life Stuff – hobbies, tv & movies

I am a multi-dimensional person. In other words, a hobby geek.

If you read my first post about “Real Life Stuff,” then you already know I’m a lover of (written) words.

I am also a bit of a computer geek. Ask me how to do something and I can probably figure it out for you. Or I’ll ask my husband (also a computer geek). And yes, I do like to hear about his latest computer projects (though I don’t understand everything he tells me).

I started playing the piano when I was six (because I wanted to be just like my big brother!). I still love playing for church – or just for fun.

My mom-in-law got me started making cards when I was housebound from the Wegener’s. Give me paper, glue, and scissors and I feel like a kindergartner making a masterpiece… I love making one-of-a-kind cards for my friends and family!

{And before you ask, I do NOT like to sew. I’ll make my own curtains, but that’s about it. Don’t even think about suggesting knitting, crocheting, or anything else with needles. Not my cup of coffee.}

Hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC
Nature is my inspiration.

And mountain trails are where I feel most alive.

I love to hike! My favorite hiking memory is from February 2007, just before I got sick. I got to look down on an eagle flying through the air. It was breathtaking.

I can’t hike as often now, because of my illness, but it’s still a part of almost every vacation we take.

National parks and battlefields are also on my fun list! My goal is to someday visit every single Civil War site in the USA.

Manassas Battlefield-
where Stonewall Jackson earned his nickname

I like watching (mostly) the same stuff as my husband.

Except for FoxNews. Because I don’t like watching the news. Period.

For movies, that means history, action, and sci-fi. Some of my favorites are Gods & Generals, The Patriot, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Clue, and Star Trek (IV). I do not like most chick-flicks. Except for maybe You’ve Got Mail or When Harry Met Sally.

I do NOT enjoy watching Anne of Green Gables or Pride and Prejudice (although I do like the P&P book). Call me unromantic, I guess. And apologies to all my Anne and P&P friends.

I love football season! Especially pro games. Especially the NE Patriots.

I usually only watch one hour of television per day (at the most), but I rely on my DVR to follow a few shows faithfully. Some of those are Rizzoli & Isles, NCIS, White Collar, Bones, and the Finder. I also like reruns of Hogan’s Heroes, JAG, and Numb3rs. And I enjoy watching Holmes on Homes and This Old House with my husband.

I do not watch any reality/talent shows. If I want to know what “reality” looks like, I just watch my neighbors. Or go to Walmart.

I’m not really into the Olympics – although I’d love for America to win a whole bunch of medals! Please tell me I’m not alone?

My favorite hobby of all is doing stuff with my husband!

Anything else you’re curious about? Now’s the time to ask!
P.S. The food edition is coming up next! 🙂

  1. This is such a fun idea! Glad I came to visit today, so I got to know you better quickly! I have to admit, I love Pride and Prejudice. The movie and the book. I’m watching Downton Abbey now which is similar. I also love football–but college not pro. SEC specifically. 🙂

    Glad we’ve connected!

    1. I’ll admit, I am a “closet” fan of Downton Abbey. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  2. We need to remedy the P and P thing, pronto! 🙂

  3. Oh dear, no Pride and Prejudice? Not even the 4.5 hour version from the BBC? So sad. But everyone is different. 🙂 However, I was happy to read that you liked “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”, “Clue”, and “God’s and Generals” – we do have those movies in common! 🙂 As for hiking – I am NOT an outdoors person. At.All. But I love to read – so I think we’d get along!

    1. Carrie, we WOULD get along. My idea of “getting fresh air” as a kid was bringing a book outside to read. 🙂

  4. Hmmm, just when I was thinking we’d get along so well. Love football, but the Patriots are one of my most disliked teams. 😉

    1. Hmm… as long as your favorites don’t include the Steelers or anyone named Manning, then I think we can still be friends 😉

      1. 2 for 2. Maybe we can be friends during the off season. hahaha

(Indy resident here, married to a rabid Steelers fan.)

      2. Ouch. Hmm… well, if I can survive my husband’s entire family being insane Steelers fans, then I guess we can probably manage 😉

  5. […] just shared three hefty posts with things about me – here, here, and here – so I’ll forego the first 11 things. Here are the questions Carrie […]
