This Week’s Inspiration (news edition)

Recently I met two ladies who have been a huge inspiration to get active again – and to get active, not just for my own sake, but to benefit others too:

A Penny A Pass
In 48 months, Samantha has gone from 12 seconds to 26 miles. She’s training for the NYC marathon on November 4, 2012 – but here’s the catch. For every person she passes in that marathon, she earns pennies to help support Doe River Gorge Ministries. Take a moment to check out the video on her blog. It’s short – and worth every second.

Angie Butcher – Team Rise
In March, after a 15 year hiatus, Angie put on her running shoes and started training again – this time, for the Chicago half-marathon on September 9, 2012. But she’s not running it alone. Angie and 12 others from Team Rise will be running to raise funds for building schools in Africa. Check out the video on her page – it’s pretty great too.

CHALLENGE1 new

In other news, have you grabbed your free copy of 31 Days of Twitter Tips yet? Trust me on this: it will make a tremendous difference in your Twitter experience. And even if you don’t need it yourself, get it for a friend. After all, it’s FREE through August 31. Can’t beat that!

{If you’re not sure what 31 Days is all about, check out my recent review.}

And finally, have you memorized any Scripture lately? Do Not Depart, which I just discovered last week through a few other bloggers, is hosting a memory challenge. From August 19 through November 11, we’ll be working on memorizing 1 Peter 1. That’s only 1-2 verses per week. You could do that, right? Especially with encouragement from others who are memorizing the same thing? Go check out their site, and pray about signing up to participate.

Weekly Thankfulness List:

  • 4 AM inspiration
  • a hard-working husband
  • 61 months of wedded bliss
  • parents who are also good friends
  • good books (even when they keep you up too late)
  • Pinterest quotes that make me laugh
  • strong coffee (wait, didn’t I say that last week?)
  • Bible apps that let you read Scripture anywhere
  • friends who are passionate about knowing the Word
  • new mercies from our Creator every.single.morning!

Coming soon: a review of Dee Henderson’s new novel! It won’t be released until October 2, but I snagged an early copy of it, in exchange for a review. So get ready for a sneak preview (don’t worry, no spoilers)!

Also, stay tuned for one more post about Real Life Stuff! Thanks to Carrie, who just added another whole list of questions for me to answer. 🙂

And next Thursday has something to do with poetry… but I’ll leave you to wonder about that for now 🙂

QUESTIONS for YOU: What articles, blogs, or people have you found inspiring this week? What are you thankful for?

  1. Awesome, awesome, awesome!! I can’t wait to share this with Samantha (a real life friend), and, of course, Angie (a co-worker)!! 🙂 Also, amen to “a hard working husband” and “parents who are also good friends” – I’m assuming you mean with you, and not with each other. Though I suppose it could work both ways. 😉 We count my parents as some of our best friends, and I treasure our relationship with them. Very special, and a huge blessing.

Have a great week-end, my friend!

  2. Thanks for the tip about Twitter. I’m sure it will be very helpful.
