November Challenge Update & Gratitudes

I’m thrilled to be guest posting today about “Becoming Thankful” over at The Fontenot Four! Sarah and I would both love it if you stopped by and said hello!

November Challenge Update:

I sent out my first two thank you notes on Tuesday! I admit, it took a little courage to place them in the mail. I wondered what the recipients would think… if it would seem weird to randomly thank them for nothing in particular. If they might think I was weird for sending them a note like that. But I sent them anyway, because I told you that I would!

One went to my pastor’s wife, who is wonderful example of a Titus 2 woman. She gives wise counsel, lives a steadfast example of Christlike love, and faithfully reaches out to the other women in the church. I love how she never seems to gossip or speak “idle chatter.” That’s such a problem in our churches today, and she gives a clear example of what our speech should be. She’s also been meeting with me occasionally throughout the past year, as a sort of mentor (although it’s been quite sporadic due to differing schedules). Pastor’s wives are busy people, and handle a LOT as the “backstage” half of the pastorate.

One went to our church pianist. There some aspects of music ministry you can’t really understand until you’ve done it yourself. And I’ve served as church pianist before, for a few years at our last church, and know firsthand the time and effort it takes – not just playing for services, but also scheduling specials and organizing offertories and being “last minute backup” for countless people. It takes a lot of work, and I’d venture to say that the church pianist is probably one of the least appreciated members of church leadership. And yet, we’d certainly all complain if they weren’t there!

Have you sent out any thank you notes yet? Who did they go to? I may be in need of ideas for later in the month… so I’d love to hear what YOU did!

Also, stay tuned… there might just be a fun giveaway coming up very soon (as in, next week)! It has to do with thankfulness, and the November Challenge. You don’t want to miss it!
