Jacksons for Scotland

It’s a privilege to have Suzanne Jackson sharing today!

We met through the blogosphere — though I don’t really remember the details of when or how — and I love her heart for ministry. She and her family are embarking on a journey  with a brand new ministry focused on bringing the gospel to Scotland, one of my favorite countries. {If anyone ever needs a luggage-carrier for a trip there, I’d love to volunteer!}

I asked if she would share a little about their ministry, their plans, and how you could pray for them.

Energetic gospel-driven couple to immerse themselves
in developing partnerships to support church planting and intensive discipleship
in foreign/unreached/English-speaking/poor/crime-ridden communities.
Must be willing to develop relationships and networks,
to travel, and must raise your own support.

If I had seen this ad, I doubt I would have passed it on to my husband. His experience is primarily that of a pastor; his desire has been to preach and shepherd within the local church. But over the course of several months, as it became clear that we could no longer remain at the church where he was pastor, an amazing opportunity opened up.

This opportunity seemed to mesh perfectly with our desire to be more directly involved with missions: 20schemes had just launched in the fall of 2012 with a big vision of planting/revitalizing 20 churches in the schemes (housing projects) of Scotland over the next 10 years.

This big vision must be a team effort, and my husband, Jeff, was brought on board to help develop partnerships with churches and individuals who would like to be a part through financial support, participating in mission trips, or even sending workers – church planters, women’s workers, interns – to accomplish this Kingdom work.

And so, Jeff traveled to Scotland to see the work already underway. As he visited different schemes, listened to the testimonies of those whose lives have already been changed, and saw the vast need, his desire for our involvement was only intensified. He was touched by the testimony of men like Paul, the homeless man who had been living in a graveyard but had now been saved and declared, “Now I have a family,” referring to his fellow believers at Niddrie Community Church.

And he felt the urgency of bringing the gospel to the unreached people of Scotland’s schemes.

And so our family begins a new season, a new adventure. It’s a season of intention, as we seek to build resources for 20schemes – person by person, church by church. It’s a season of faith, as we share with others our own family’s need for monthly support while trusting God to provide. It’s a season of hope, as we watch the Lord working in amazing ways.

Will you pray for us in this work?

Please pray that as we continue to seek monthly financial support, God will help us stretch our resources and be good stewards. Pray that we will be placed in contexts where we can share the ministry of 20schemes and that God’s people will partner with us in this work. And pray that we will be faithful, even through difficulties and discouragement.
