Let’s Chat: Heroes of the Faith

If you read my last post, you know that I'm planning to share about some heroes of the faith throughout this year. I've been mulling over this idea, ever since I settled on my focus for 2014 (Knowing God's People). Reading biographies and sharing them with you all is a great way to increase my knowledge and understanding of strong Christians who have walked the path before us, and keep me accountable to meet my goal! I started with Corrie ten Boom, not for any particular reason other than that I'd just finished reading The Hiding Place. I also hope to write about Elisabeth Elliot, Francis & Edith Schaeffer, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Charles Spurgeon, Joni Eareckson Tada, Brother Andrew... [...Read More]

Let’s Chat: Christmas Traditions!

One of my favorite things about Christmas is all the traditions we get observe every year. You know, those things you do every single year that make it finally "feel like" Christmas. Or those certain ways you like to celebrate Jesus, or particular ways you enjoy being together as a family during the Christmas season. Whether you've grown up practicing certain routines, making the season special in a particular way every year, or you've recently established some new habits for celebrating -- traditions are a great way to stay focused on Christ, truly enjoying the season, and making lots of great memories. What are some of my favorites? Growing up, we would recite the Christmas [...Read More]

Let’s Chat about Thanksgiving Challenges

'Tis the season for thanksgiving! While we should be practicing gratitude every single day of the year, it's kind of fun to participate in some sort of thanksgiving challenge in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving challenges may be getting a little cliche, but they're refreshing to the soul and encouraging to the heart. They can infuse new life into your gratitude attitude, and sharpen your ability to give thanks in everything. And by doing a more public challenge -- like posting on Facebook once a day -- you may even influence someone else to start being more thankful, like this post from Carrie did for me! Need some ideas? Here's some popular ones to [...Read More]

Let’s Chat: Choosing Gratitude Daily

We are now six weeks into the Choosing Gratitude study. I hope you've been enjoying and learning as much as I have! But I wanted to take a break from the book this week to have a little "coffee date" with you, and chat about how we're making gratitude a habit in our own lives. I'm personally trying to make gratitude a daily habit by choosing to worship instead of whine. When I feel a complaining spirit coming on, I try to focus my thoughts on a passage of praise, like Psalm 103. Instead of griping and murmuring with discontent, I pray those words back to God: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his [...Read More]

#LetsChat: What Are You Learning?

What have you been learning lately? How has God been drawing you closer and teaching you? Maybe there's a character trait that you've been learning about, or a discipline you've been practicing. Maybe it's a relationship God has been helping you improve. Maybe it's simply soaking yourself in His presence, and finding rest in His strength. Praise the Lord by testifying of what He is doing in your life!  Sharing the good work that He has begun in you is a great way to proclaim His greatness. It might bless someone else to read how He's accomplishing His purposes. It might encourage someone else who's discouraged and struggling to learn the same thing. And it will definitely please [...Read More]

Let’s Chat about Reading!

I am a bookworm, and I'm not ashamed to admit it! But as a bookworm, I often have trouble deciding just which book should go next on my list. After all, there's thousands of books -- traditional and digital -- to choose from. Unfortunately, there's less-than-thousands of minutes to read them all. So how do you choose? I'm actually preparing a two-part series about this topic for later in the week, partly from my own musings and observations, partly from application of biblical principles. I'll also review a great resource that's really helped me define why I read what I read. But before I share all of that, I want to hear your thoughts on the subject! For instance... How do YOU [...Read More]

Let’s Chat about Bible Reading

What have you been reading lately in God's Word? Are you trying to read through the Bible in 2013? Are you studying a particular book or a specific topic? How has it been going? What's been your favorite book so far? What lessons have stuck out to you? Leave a comment. Share what you've been reading, ask a question, or share something you've learned that might encourage someone else. And invite your friends to join in too -- tweet about it! And let's chat about Bible reading!     Read God's Word with me this week! Tuesday: Hosea 5-8, Song of Songs 7 Wednesday: Ezra 1-4, Psalm 116 Thursday: Ezra 5-7, Psalm 117 Friday: Ezra 8-10, Psalm 118:1-14 Saturday: [...Read More]
